Hand and Foot is a popular card game, a variation of Canasta, where players, typically in teams, aim to create melds of cards of the same rank, using wild cards (jokers and deuces). The goal is to be the first to discard all your cards by forming melds, with points awarded for each meld and for the cards remaining in your hand.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
Objective: Be the first team to get rid of all their cards by forming melds.
Card Values:
•Jokers: 50 points (wild cards).
•Deuces: 20 points (wild cards).
•Aces: 20 points.
•8 through King: 10 points each.
•3 through 7: 5 points each.
•Red 3: -300 points.
•Black 3: -5 points.
Game Play:
1Dealing: Each player receives 11 cards, called the “hand”. A “foot” (typically 11 cards, can vary) is also dealt and placed face down.
2Drawing and Discarding: Players take turns drawing from the stock or the discard pile.
3Melds: Players form melds by combining cards of the same rank. Melds must have a minimum point value, which increases with each round.
4Going Out: When a player runs out of cards in their hand, they can pick up their foot and continue playing.
5Scoring: Points are awarded for melds and cards remaining in the hand.
6End of the Game: The game continues until a team reaches a predetermined score or a specified number of rounds is played.
Key Features:
•Melds: Forming sets of cards of the same rank.
•Wild Cards: Jokers and deuces can be used as any card.
•Scoring: Points are awarded for melds and remaining cards.
•Triple Play (Hand, Knee, and Foot): A variant where the player can pick up and discard cards from the “knee” and “foot”.
